If you're like me, when I started my first business years ago with a my partner and friend Alan, we were on a shoestring budget. The web was just starting to come into its own and we needed a website—but didn't have the moeny to hire someone to develop a website for us. I ended up building our wesbite. That's where I began my career as a web developer. A short time ago I found out about WordPress. You may be familiar with it, or may have simply heard of it as a blogging tool. But it's SO much more! Companies like Ford, Sony and other big names utilize WordPress for some of their sites.
WordPress uses a database, making it a "dynamic" site. From the administrative back end, you can control all the content of your site, write blog articles, add pages, even change the look of your entire site SO easily. Adding a new page (or 100 pages) requires no coding at all. You can add a new page in a few clicks. As your company grows, so can your website, with ease.
And what about "bells and whistles?" Say you need a contact form on your website. You don't have to code it by hand, or find someone with decades of experience to help you. Simply find a WordPress "plugin" online. Upload it and install it. Adjust its settings to your needs and pop its "shortcode" onto one of your pages. Presto! You've got a working contact form your visitors can use to send emails to you! There are hundreds more plugins out there that perform many of the functions you'll want to include in your website.
I have found WordPress so powerful that it's the package I use almost exclusively these days for the sites I develop. My clients love the fact that they can make changes to their site's content simply by logging in and typing. They don't need me to do it because WordPress gives them that power.
